The project consisted of the amalgamation of two lateral apartments in a Victorian dwelling into one cohesive maisonette.
The insertion of a modern staircase and void links the floors together while also creating a focus for large scale artwork. The void enables a flood of light into both floor levels as well as creating a feeling of continuity between various levels of the home.
A sense of stasis and tranquillity is achieved with the use of rich warm natural materials spread generously throughout the home – oak and reclaimed teak flooring, full height wenge pivot doors, glass balustrading, and stone and glass mosaics. A retractable skylight connects the urban dweller with maximum daylight and the natural elements.
